Dr. Paul Wanjohi Calls on Parents to Instill Strong Morals and Discipline in Children During Holidays

By Steve El Sabai

Educationist and author Dr. Paul K. Wanjohi, the Managing Director of Sharp Education Centre and Junior School, has urged parents to play an active role in nurturing discipline, moral uprightness, and positive character traits in their children during the December holiday.

Speaking during the launch of his new book titled “The Fruits of Good Discipline,” Dr. Wanjohi emphasized that the family remains the foundation of moral formation and value transmission. He reminded parents that character building is not merely the responsibility of schools but a process that begins and is sustained within the home.

“Children learn more from what we do than from what we tell them,” Dr. Wanjohi stated. “Parents must therefore be intentional in modeling the values they wish to see reflected in their children.”

He expressed concern over the increasing exposure of children and teenagers to harmful online content, peer influence, and risky behavior, particularly during the long holiday. He called on parents and guardians to remain vigilant, stressing the importance of open communication, family bonding, and mentorship in guiding children toward responsible decision-making.

Located in the Kayole–Komarock area of Embakasi, Sharp Education Centre and Junior School was established in 2005 to provide affordable and quality education to the community. Over the years, it has become one of Nairobi’s most reputable learning institutions, combining academic excellence with moral education and life skills training.

During the book review session, Sir Duncan Arimi, Chief Executive Officer of Gravity CBC Centre, praised Dr. Wanjohi’s remarkable dedication to education and discipline. “Dr. Paul Wanjohi is a book by himself — to be read, studied, and emulated,” Sir Arimi remarked. “His deep understanding of discipline and child development is evident not only in his writings but in his lifelong service to education and humanity.”

Sir Arimi also lauded Dr. Wanjohi’s contribution to national education policy. As Secretary to the Board of Management of Gravity CBC Centre, Dr. Wanjohi authored a position paper on Mathematics that significantly influenced the Ministry of Education’s decision to make Mathematics a compulsory subject in Senior School. Under this framework, learners in the STEM pathway will take Pure Mathematics, while those in Social Sciences and Sports pathways will study Essential Mathematics as a mandatory subject.

Education reporters who covered the event described Dr. Wanjohi as a passionate advocate for children’s rights and equal access to education. They highlighted his leadership as National Treasurer of the Unified APBET Schools Association of Kenya (UASA), where he continues to promote collaboration among private and alternative education providers. He also chairs the Tunza Mtoto Coalition, a national organization dedicated to advancing children’s welfare, advocacy, and community empowerment.

Dr. Wanjohi’s book, “The Fruits of Good Discipline,” has been hailed as a timely and insightful guide for both parents and learners. The publication, recommended for readers aged ten and above, offers practical lessons on discipline, responsibility, and moral growth. Many have described it as a “gift to the nation,” capturing values that resonate with parents, educators, and young readers alike.

As schools close for the December holiday, Dr. Wanjohi’s message serves as a powerful reminder that the home remains the foundation of moral strength and personal integrity. His call to parents is both timely and necessary, urging families to invest in shaping children who are disciplined, responsible, and grounded in values that will guide them throughout life.
