Bangbet Partners with Office of the Attorney General to Roll Out Mobile Legal Aid Centers Across Kenya

 By East Africa Times Reporter

Kenya’s journey toward accessible justice reached a major milestone  after Attorney General Dorcas Oduor, in partnership with corporate supporter Bangbet, unveiled the Mobile Legal Aid Center initiative. The programme is designed to deliver legal services directly to underserved and remote communities, beginning with a pilot in Machakos County before expanding to all 47 counties.

As Kenya’s first female Attorney General, Dorcas Oduor has been consistent in her drive to transform justice from a distant constitutional ideal into a service rooted in dignity, empathy, and proximity. Her vision for the Mobile Legal Aid Centers is to ensure that no Kenyan, whether a child, mother, elderly citizen or person living with a disability, is denied justice due to cost or distance.

Each mobile unit has been fitted with soundproof consultation booths, a legal aid and documentation room, facilities for virtual court hearings, solar-powered energy systems, and wheelchair-accessible infrastructure. Oduor has emphasized that these spaces should become places where every Kenyan can be heard, underscoring her belief that justice begins with listening. Her leadership reflects a shift from rigid bureaucracy toward people-centered service delivery.

Bangbet has emerged as a central partner in the initiative, offering support that goes far beyond financial contributions. The company funded the acquisition and modification of the mobile containers and oversaw the installation of solar energy systems and electrical works. It also furnished the interiors, provided ICT equipment, and supported the development of virtual court technology and public legal education resources. Bangbet says its involvement is guided by the principle that a stronger society begins with empowered citizens.

The programme is designed to respond to the lived realities of Kenyans who continue to struggle with limited access to legal services. The centers are expected to provide a safe and supportive space for people seeking justice, whether it is a child navigating family disputes, a rural mother trying to resolve a land conflict, or an elderly man seeking mediation without traveling long distances. These are the types of stories that AG Oduor and Bangbet hope the initiative will bring to light.

Once the Machakos pilot is completed, the model will be refined based on local feedback before being deployed nationwide. The expansion will be supported by State Counsel, pro bono advocates, paralegal officers, and volunteers. Analysts note that the partnership demonstrates the power of collaboration between government and private sector actors in addressing long-standing social challenges that affect vulnerable populations.

The partnership between Attorney General Dorcas Oduor and Bangbet is redefining how justice is delivered in Kenya. A simple modified container is being transformed into a vessel of dignity, hope, and equal access for communities long underserved by traditional legal structures. The Mobile Legal Aid Center initiative is more than a government programme; it is a national promise that justice does not have to be distant because care can travel.
