Kalonzo Musyoka Declares 2027 Presidential Bid, Vows to ‘Komboa Kenya’

Wiper Party leader Dr. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka has officially declared his candidacy for the 2027 presidential election, pledging to restore “hope, stability, and dignity” to Kenya after what he termed as years of economic hardship, corruption, and leadership failure under the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Addressing thousands of delegates at Uhuru Park during the Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) National Delegates Conference, Dr. Musyoka accepted the party’s nomination with what he described as a “deep sense of duty and high resolve,” calling for a revolution of hope to rebuild the nation.
“I accept your nomination to be your presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election. I accept it with a full and grateful heart — and with only one obligation — to devote every effort of body, mind and spirit to lead this exceptional Patriotic Front to victory and restore hope and stability to our beloved Nation,” he declared.
In a speech laced with emotional appeals and biting criticism of President William Ruto’s government, Kalonzo painted a grim picture of Kenya’s economy, accusing the regime of “taxation without development,” joblessness, and corruption.
“Today, Kenyans are overtaxed, underpaid, and overburdened. Each day dawns with a new levy, a new penalty, and a new heartbreak,” he said. “This is not taxation for development; it is taxation for the survival of a few who know Ruto.”
He said the “Bottom-Up” economic model had become “bottomless corruption and top-down greed,” blaming the government for crippling industries, overborrowing, and driving investors out of the country.
The Wiper leader also took aim at the controversial Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), describing it as a “threat to citizens’ well-being” and a vehicle for graft.
Kalonzo accused the Kenya Kwanza administration of attempting to “capture all institutions” — Parliament, the Judiciary, and the media — to silence dissent and shield itself from accountability.
He also lamented what he termed as the “dismantling of Kenya’s celebrated diplomacy,” alleging that the government had engaged in regional activities that escalated conflicts in Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
“We are witnessing a horror movie directed by a know-it-all leader who is both the star and the supporting cast of his own show,” Kalonzo charged.
Outlining his vision for a “Patriotic Administration,” the former Vice President promised to revitalize the economy, lower the cost of living, and create jobs for young people through innovation, manufacturing, and agriculture.
“We will deliver a 24-hour economy that ensures all of us are part and parcel of growing our national basket. We will cut unnecessary taxes such as the punitive Affordable Housing Levy,” he said.
He also pledged to invest in education, universal healthcare, and youth empowerment, asserting that “professionalism, not Rutoism, will get you a job.”
Kalonzo paid tribute to the Gen Z movement, which staged protests in 2024 against tax policies, saying their courage symbolized a new era of political awakening.
“The Gen Z generation — bold, creative, and courageous — took to the streets to demand justice, jobs, and dignity. But their voices were met not with dialogue, but with bullets,” he said, vowing to end police brutality and protect constitutional freedoms.
In a moment that electrified the crowd, Kalonzo urged Kenyans to register to vote, framing the 2027 election as a peaceful revolution.
“Ruto ordered for you to be shot not in the head but in the legs because you dared to exercise your constitutional rights. I urge you to shoot Ruto at the ballot,” he told the cheering crowd, rallying them with the slogan, “Komboa Kenya! Wantam!
The Wiper leader emphasized unity and justice, vowing to build a Kenya “where leadership is honest, justice is real, and opportunity is equal.” He paid tribute to victims of violence and praised farmers, traders, and boda boda riders as the backbone of the nation.
“From Lamu to Kiambu, from Wote to Turkana, from Mombasa to Meru — we all deserve dignity, justice, and honest leadership,” he said. “Together, we shall bring it to life.”
The rally was attended by top opposition figures including Second Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Martha Karua, Eugene Wamalwa, and Speaker Emeritus Justin Muturi, who graced the event as “Special Observers.
Concluding his address, Kalonzo declared the Wiper Patriotic Front “ready for governance,” promising to lead a united coalition into 2027.
“The time is now to Komboa Kenya and end the Ruto disaster,” he said. “When we rise together, no government can suppress us. Kenya will rise again.”
