Youth Take the Lead as DNA Partners with KIKAO to Shape Kenya’s Political

By Jameson Mutua

In a bold political realignment, the Democratic National Alliance (DNA) has officially partnered with the KIKAO Youth Movement, marking a significant step toward transforming youth political engagement in Kenya. The collaboration culminates in the launch of the DNA Youth Movement—an energized platform that brings youth to the forefront of the country’s political discourse.

Speaking during the partnership event in Nairobi, DNA Party Leader Hon. Godfrey Kanoti described the union as “a revolutionary moment,” signaling a decisive shift in youth inclusion.

“Today is a turning point, a signal to the nation that Kenya’s youth are no longer knocking on doors. You are opening your own,” Hon. Kanoti declared.

The KIKAO Youth Movement, known for its vocal grassroots advocacy, has now been fully integrated into DNA’s political framework, positioning the party as a new home for aspiring young leaders. Bright Shitemi, CEO and Chairperson of KIKAO, lauded the development as a critical response to the country’s governance challenges.

“This momentous day is a continuation of the remarkable efforts of young people who said enough to corruption, poor governance, and an attempt to destroy our democratic gains,” Shitemi said. “Together we will change the DNA of our leadership and our country.”

To underscore its commitment, DNA announced key appointments of KIKAO leaders into senior party positions:

Deputy Party Leader: Chepkoech Towett

Deputy National Chairperson: Bright Shitemi

Secretary, Public Policy and Economic Affairs: Stanley Muchiri

Secretary, Political Affairs: James Okumu

Secretary, Mobilization, Partnerships and Fundraising: Eugene Ochieng

Secretary, Publicity and Information: Jagero Oduor

Hon. Kanoti acknowledged the dire socio-economic conditions affecting Kenya’s youth, pointing to a staggering unemployment rate exceeding 35%. He also condemned recent state crackdowns on youth activism.

“Young Kenyans have been abducted, tortured, and even killed for daring to speak out,” he said. “This is no longer just about exclusion. This is about survival.”

He described the KIKAO partnership as a “strategic pillar” of the party’s 2027 roadmap. “KIKAO is not a slogan; it is a movement with muscle. With a presence in 40 counties and thousands of members, they’ve done the grassroots work most parties ignore,” he said.

The DNA Youth Movement will function as a platform for mentorship, political training, and leadership development, with a special focus on Gen Z and Millennials. Rejecting tokenism and gatekeeping, Hon. Kanoti made a resounding call for youth to take charge of their political destiny.

“You are not the future; you are the present,” he declared. “2027 will be the Youth Tsunami. The time for frustration has passed. The time for power is here.”

With this move, DNA positions itself as a frontrunner in redefining Kenya’s political future—one that gives young people not just a voice, but a stake in leadership.
