Broadbased Queens Launch Empowerment Initiative to Uplift Women Across Kenya

Reporting by Jameson Mutua

A women’s group by the banner Broadbased Queens has unveiled a new social empowerment initiative dubbed the Broadbased Wills Program, designed to advance political stability, foster national cohesion, and empower women through transformative development interventions.

The program, which subscribes to and supports the national broad-based agenda, is championed under the shared vision of President William Samoei Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga, with a focus on strengthening women’s roles in socioeconomic development.

At its core, the initiative is anchored on four key pillars: the Social Health Authority (SHA), the Affordable Housing Program, Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) support, and the Affirmative Government Fund. These pillars aim to provide women — especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds — with resources, skills, and opportunities to improve their livelihoods.

The rollout will follow a structured two-phase approach. Phase One involves identifying women of influence at the ward level in selected counties, followed by training sessions through town halls and workshops focused on the four pillars. Phase Two will extend to community-level engagement, featuring structured door-to-door outreach led by trained teams in partnership with county and national governments, professional bodies, faith-based organizations, and community leaders.

Among the key activities are mobilization of women at grassroots levels, capacity-building workshops, business merchandising support, soft skills training, onboarding into the SHA framework, and sensitization on affordable housing opportunities.

Through this initiative, the Broad-Based Queens reaffirmed their commitment to empowering women, strengthening families, and transforming communities.

“This program is about ensuring that women are not left behind. It is a practical demonstration of our resolve to drive inclusive socioeconomic growth and sustainable development in Kenya,” the group said in a statement.
