Members and leaders of the Kamba community have declared their strong support for the government's ongoing development agenda, particularly the Affordable Housing Programme, during a civic education forum held in Nairobi on Tuesday.
Speaking to the press, the community leaders emphasized the importance of embracing national initiatives aimed at improving living standards, especially for low-income earners. The forum focused on the Social Housing Authority (SHA) registration process, which they described as a transformative step in tackling the housing crisis across the country.
“We urge all members of our community to register and actively participate in this transformative agenda that will uplift lives and create jobs,” the leaders stated.
The community also expressed enthusiasm ahead of President William Ruto’s scheduled tour of the Ukambani region next month. They pledged to welcome him warmly and engage in discussions that will strengthen the partnership between the national government and the Kamba people.
“We are prepared to receive His Excellency with open arms,” said Caleb Mikel, Secretary General of the organizing committee. “This visit is of great significance to us, and we look forward to fruitful engagements.”
The leaders paid tribute to Cabinet Secretary Dr. Alfred Mutua, hailing his dedication to ensuring that the voice of the Kamba people is represented and respected in government.
“Dr. Mutua’s continued commitment and outstanding work in championing government policies while representing our interests inspires many,” said Gerard Kimeu, the community’s Chairman.
They also applauded Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja for his administration’s achievements in infrastructure, sanitation, youth empowerment, education, and healthcare. The community credited the governor for improving the quality of life for city residents, including a large population of Kamba people living in Nairobi.
Special recognition was given to Hon. Patrick Mbangula, Chairman of the Kenya Water Institute (KEWI), who convened the civic education forum. He was commended for his leadership and role in mobilizing and uniting the community around key national priorities.
“As a community, we stand united and committed to working hand in hand with all leaders who have the interests of our people at heart,” the statement concluded. “We believe in the vision of a united, developed, and prosperous Kenya, ” they reiterated.
