Ananda Marga marked its 50th anniversary in Kenya with a vibrant public celebration held at the Gatina Primary School playgrounds in Kawangware on Thursday.
The event brought together children from Ananda Marga schools across Nairobi and residents from neighboring communities. Attendees enjoyed a variety of performances, including poems, traditional dances, songs, and spiritual messages centered on the themes of service, compassion, and unity.
Speaking during the event, Dinesh Kumar, Chairman of the Ananda Marga Mission in Kenya, said the anniversary was not only a celebration of Ananda Marga’s presence in the country but also a reflection on its ongoing social and humanitarian initiatives.
He noted that the organization provides meals to approximately 3,000 people every Sunday and over 1,200 schoolchildren daily across various centres, including Kangemi, Kawangware, Githurai 45, and Kamangu in Kikuyu. Weekly feeding programs are also conducted in Githurai 44, Njiru, Lavington, and outside Gatina Primary School.
“In total, we serve around 100,000 meals every month, which adds up to 1.2 million meals per year,” he said.
Ananda Marga also runs a children’s home in Mountain View, currently housing 24 children, and supports both primary and secondary school students with daily meals, including dinner for day school learners.
Founded in India in 1955 and established in Kenya in 1975, Ananda Marga promotes spiritual development and social service as part of its core mission.
