Boda Boda and Tuktuk riders endorse Sonko

By Elijah Odanga

Dear Kenyans, we are gathered here today to introduce you to the

Boda Boda and Tuk Tuk Transport Cooperative Union of Kenya, a national unity of over 35 transport associations, over

410 transport saccos, and countless welfare groups across the

country.

The informal transport sector, representing over 2.3 million Boda

Boda and Tuk Tuk operators across Kenya, has for long been

represented from a divided front giving opportunity to

incompetent factions to speak for us leading to us not realizing

the full gains of our transport economic activities.

As more transport groups continue to join us, with the aim to

promote the social, economic and security interests of our

members.

The Union shall;

1. Act as the official representative body of boda boda and tuk

tuk operators, coordinating activities and engagements with

members.

2. Facilitate digital registration of all operators and promote

the adoption of systems to curb theft and insecurities in our

Country.

3. Organize members into structured Saccos and Associations

for better financial management and economic

empowerment.

4. Maintain order and discipline amongst operators by

enforcing operational standards and codes of conduct.

5. Support the Patron in implementing sectoral reforms and

advocating for riders’ rights.

As a Union of sober formations, we strongly re-affirm our

unwavering confidence and support to His Excellency Governor

Mike Mbuvi Sonko as he assumes his role as our chosen Patron.

Recently, we entered into a Memorandum of Understanding

(MoU) with H.E Sonko to allow him take lead of the following

strategic tasks for the benefit of our members:

1. Champion the Rights and Welfare of Boda Boda & Tuk Tuk

Operators

2. Provide Strategic Leadership and Representation

3. Strengthen Financial and Economic Empowerment

4. Promote Safety and Training Programs

5. Enhance Social and Welfare Programs

6. Encourage Innovation and Technological Growth

7. Lobby for Increased Government Support

8. Strengthen Union Representation

Our collective decision to have H.E. Sonko as our Patron was

reached after extensive consultations among legitimate leaders from all 47 counties and all 8 regions of Kenya. We chose him

because of his proven track record in championing the rights and

welfare of boda boda and tuk tuk operators.

We categorically condemn the falsehoods and propaganda being

spread by an illegitimate group and its self-proclaimed

leadership. This outfit has no authority or mandate to speak on

behalf of the millions of hardworking boda boda and tuk tuk

operators across Kenya. Their recent desperate attempts to

discredit our Patron and mislead the public are baseless,

malicious, and will not see the light of the day.

This Union marks a new chapter in the growth and

empowerment of Boda Boda and Tuk Tuk operators in Kenya.

We are therefore confident that under the leadership of H.E Mike

Mbuvi Sonko as Patron, the Union will effectively represent our

interests, drive reforms, and ensure a brighter, safer, and more

prosperous future for all riders and operators in the country.

“One Voice, One Union, One Future”
