Government Spokesman Hon. Sen. (Dr.) Isaac Mwaura, CBS, addressed the nation today at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), highlighting the achievements of President William Ruto's administration over the past year.

Dr. Mwaura emphasized the success of the Government's BETA PLAN, a transformative blueprint aimed at economic empowerment through agriculture, affordable housing, universal healthcare, support for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and the digital superhighway. He praised the strides made in stabilizing the economy, enhancing food security, and creating sustainable opportunities for Kenyans at the grassroots.

Economic Stability and Tourism Growth

Despite global economic pressures, Dr. Mwaura noted that Kenya had maintained economic stability, with strategic debt management, including the timely repayment of the Eurobond. The tourism sector has been a major contributor to this stability, with visitor numbers rising from 1.48 million to 2.5 million, boosted by the introduction of the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system.

Record Agricultural Output

Agriculture emerged as a standout success in 2024. Fertilizer subsidies reduced prices from Ksh 7,500 to Ksh 2,500 per 50kg bag, leading to record-breaking harvests of 95 million bags of maize, 10 million bags of wheat, and 2 million bags of rice. These initiatives have significantly enhanced food security while reducing reliance on imports.

Affordable Housing

The Affordable Housing Program has delivered 124,000 units currently under construction, with 4,888 units already available for sale. The project has created 200,000 jobs and is expected to generate 1 million more in the coming years.

Healthcare Access

Dr. Mwaura highlighted milestones in universal healthcare, including the registration of 16.5 million Kenyans under Taifa Care and the deployment of over 107,000 Community Health Promoters. This has increased access to medical services for millions of households.

Empowering Small Businesses

Through initiatives like the Hustler Fund, which has disbursed over Ksh 60 billion, the Government has supported thousands of entrepreneurs. The industrial sector has also attracted significant investment through Special Economic Zones (SEZs) and Export Processing Zones (EPZs).

Digital Transformation

The e-Citizen portal now offers over 20,855 digitized government services, streamlining service delivery and increasing revenue. The expansion of the digital superhighway, with over 13,000 kilometers of fiber optic cable laid, has connected more Kenyans to reliable internet.
