In a bid to tackle the pressing issue of teenage pregnancy and promote educational opportunities for young women, the Forum For African Women Educationalists- Kenya (FAWE) , in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, on Friday convened a landmark event aimed at forging strategies and fostering collaboration among key stakeholders.
The program dubbed "Imarisha Msichana," launched in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, aims to reduce teenage pregnancy rates and facilitates the re-entry of teenage mothers into the education system. The program recognizes the critical importance of education in empowering young women and breaking the cycle of poverty.
At the event, representatives from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), local chiefs, and the County Director of Education came together to brainstorm and devise effective strategies to combat teenage pregnancy and create a supportive environment for teenage mothers to continue their education.
Speaking at the event, Justus Makhulo, Program Officer, FAWE, emphasized the need for a collective effort in addressing the root causes of teenage pregnancy and ensuring that every young woman has the opportunity to pursue her education without facing stigma or discrimination.
The collaborative effort between the FAWEK, the Mastercard Foundation, and other stakeholders underscores the importance of partnerships in driving meaningful change in communities. By pooling resources, expertise, and networks, these organizations are working together to create a brighter future for young women across Kenya.
Key initiatives discussed during the event included comprehensive sexuality education, access to reproductive health services, community outreach programs, and the implementation of policies to support the reintegration of teenage mothers into schools.
